Floor Screeding

WHAT IS FLOOR SCREEDING?

Floor screeding  is a vital to establish quality, performance and durability of a floor system.

Screeding a floor is the process of applying to a floor base a well blended mixture of ordinary Portland Cement with graded sand and a minimal amount of water in order to form a solid, level sub-floor that is capable of receiving the final floor finish.

Floor screeding is the ideal solution for providing a solid, level floor where underfloor heating systems are to be installed.

CMR Developments Floor Screeding Contractors

We specialise in the supply and installation of Sand Cement, Free-Flowing and Self Levelling Screeds to main contractors, localised building contractors, shopfitters and self-builders, either factory batched or site mixed.

Our traditional floor screeds boast excellent cement dispersion coupled with uniform compressive strength. We are able to loose tip ready mixed screed from a batching plant, or site mix the screed and deliver the material trhough a screed pump into working areas. If there is a problem w ith access or site restrictions, we can wheel barrow screed into working areas.

About Liquid Screed

Liquid screed is a calcium sulphate based screed which is delivered from the suppliers in truck mixers and placed onto the floor by pump.

Liquid floor screed is extremely efficient, fast and accurate and here at CMR Developments we will use our wealth of experience within the industry to ensure you receive the best results. The material of the liquid floor screed we use allows us to create a thinner screed within the room, allowing you to reach the desired temperature of the room quicker and more efficiently, even without the underfloor heating we provide. Liquid floor screed is also a lot more durable and stronger than a traditional screed.

Liquid screed is the most popular screed for use on all types of building projects due to the reduced installation time in comparison to traditional sand and cement screeds.  It is also the best choice for underfloor heating due to the fact it flows around the pipes leaving no air gaps making the whole system much more effective both in performance and cost.

Why Install Liquid Screed?

CMR Developments offers free flowing liquid floor screed that is engineered to fit all types of property. Liquid screed is popular due to its flexibility, ease of use, fast installation and labor-saving characteristics. This unique type of screed is a popular substitute, alternative or replacement for traditional sand and cement screeds.

Liquid floor screed is designed to give a smooth, level surface prior to the application of final floor finishes. It can be used bonded, unbonded or floated and with or without underfloor heating.

CMR Developments floor screed

Liquid screed serves as the best option especially when underfloor heating is being installed. It is because underfloor heating’s efficiency is highly increased when installed with liquid floor screeds.

Moreover, liquid screeds can be use in housing projects, renovations and constructions of new buildings. Actually, these types of screeds have been used in various kinds of structures and institutions such as schools, hospitals, hotels, condominiums, airports and more.

In addition, liquid screed has more advantages compared to traditional sand and cement screed method that has incommodities like it dries slowly, it requires intensive manpower to lay and it reduces heat output of underfloor heating. So here are some of the advantages that CMR Developments can offer:

  • Fast installation- an area of 1000m2 of liquid flow screed can be laid in just one day without much hassle.
  • Self-levelling - no need to reduce its bubbles because it will be reduced by itself.
  • Perfect with Underfloor Heating- CMR Developments gives excellent underfloor heating systems underneath due to its high thermal conductivity quality.
  • The nature of the screed will provide a superior surface finish. Liquid screed has a high compressive strength which will allow installing at greatly reduced depths.
  • Minimal drying shrinkage as it is not a cement based product. You can expect a virtually crack-free floor in comparison to traditional sand & cement screed.
  • With liquid screed you are able to have light traffic within 24 hours.
  • Liquid screed can be force-dried by turning the heat on in the applied area or by using de-humidifiers which would facilitate early installation of floor coverings.
  • Liquid screed has extremely eco-friendly credentials. A large percentage of the liquid screed is manufactured using recycled material.
  • Liquid screed can be installed at a much faster rate, therefore, enabling larger areas to be completed per day in comparison to traditional sand and cement screed.
Liquid Screed Specifications

Once a screed has been installed it needs time for residual moisture to dry out before sensitive floor coverings such as vinyl’s, floor tiles or wood floors can be laid. Drying time for a traditional sand and cement screed at 75mm (detailed by the British standard BS8204) is 110 days! In comparison, the drying time for a flowing screed at 55mm is only 70 days, a huge time saving in terms of your overall project.

The minimum thickness requirements for liquid screed * (as per BS 8204-7)

  • Floating (Commercial) – 40mm
  • Floating (Domestic) – 35mm
  • Bonded – 25mm
  • Unbonded – 30mm
  • Underfloor Heating – 25mm min cover to pipes

Flowing Screed Systems

Can be installed 10-20 times faster than conventional screed. Anhydrite delivers an enhanced flexural strength and so can be laid at minimum thicknesses compared to traditional screeds. Delivered factory-produced the screed is installed using our specialist pumps. Flowing Screed is ready for immediate application, utilising anhydrate allows a rapid application rate of up to 2000m2 per day.

Normally accessible to foot traffic within 24 hours the material is self-compacting without segregation. There is a minimal need for movement joints and the material is protein free and will not harbour bacteria.  Soundness to category A according to BS 8204: Part 1 (BRE Screed Test). A class SR2 surface regularity (5mm in 3m length) when installed.

Self Levelling Screeds

Self-smoothing compound designed to smooth undulations in cementitious floor substrates and to build depths from 3 to 50mm. With an installation rate of up to 2000m2 per day the screed is an excellent solution should ceramic/vinyl need to be installed directly to a rough surface concrete slab.

Industrial Topping Coats

A  range of smoothing compounds and floor toppings especially suited for commercial and industrial floor applications.  Both industrial grade, self-smoothing sub-layment floorbase and toppings provide the ultimate application material for today’s busy industrial floor areas, such as warehouses and other heavily trafficked areas.

Eco-Friendly Screed

Here at CMR Developments , we suggest pairing our liquid floor screed with our underfloor heating to give you the perfect combination. When combining the two it produces high levels of thermal conductivity, making sure the heat stays within the room for as long as possible. It will also reduce your carbon footprint, making your floor as eco-friendly as possible.

Traditional Floor Screeds

  • Fibre
  • High Strength
  • Quick Drying
FIBRE REINFORCED SAND AND CEMENT FLOOR SCREED

Polypropylene fibres are added and evenly dispersed in a screed mix, thus helping to prevent shrinkage and cracking.

These are great for large scale floors in hospitals, offices and industry, fibre screeds were developed to meet the demand for sand and cement screeds minus the need for a reinforcement mesh. By including an even dispersion of polypropylene fibres the screed is super strong. The fibres improve cohesion and control cracking caused by internal stresses.

  • As a topping to lightweight screeds based on lightweight aggregates
HIGHER STRENGTH SAND AND CEMENT FLOOR SCREEDS

For buildings that are exposed to high foot traffic, these screeds achieve strengths of over 30 Nmm2.

SBR Polymer Modified Screed

Due to the inclusion of a synthetic polymer resin attain increased toughness and bond properties. This type of screed minimises shrinkage and cracking, permerability is reduced and flexural strength is improved. Polymer modified screeds can provide higher performance at thinner levels when normal thickness would normally be problematic. SBR screed can be installed to a minimum depth of 25mm (Bonded).

High Density Screeds

High Density Screeds give a higher strength and abrasion resistant finish. High Density screed is effective on floors subject to heavy foot traffic and point loading. These screeds can either be bonded directly to the slab or placed onto thermal/acoustic insulation.
